This is a term that derives its name from the iPod manufactured by Apple Incorporated. The iPod is an electronic gizmo that allows downloading files in .mp3 or AAC (Apple iTunes format). To date, the primary file download use has been for music for the iPod to be used as a mobile music player. The iPod is manufactured in various hard disk capacities that predict the download of other, larger-sized files, such as video, in the future. The name "podcast" is no longer specifically related to the iPod but to any software and hardware combination that permits the downloading and playing of files in user defined timeframes. The concept of podcast is a new technology application of an electronic broadcast concept "narrowcasting."
SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR PODCASTING (WASI)
As part of my research I have found two software’s which could possibly be used for recording a podcast. One of the software is know as Propaganda while the other is known as Audacity. Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems. In contrast Propaganda software is a powerful tool one can use to create audio shows that sound professionally produced with a minimum of effort. However it has cost of 50 dollars attached to it.
The first step in any podcast project is obtaining high-quality source material. Whether it's voice recordings, music or sound effects, Propaganda can record it, import it, and store it. All audio clips can be easily labeled and organized for later reference. And with Propaganda, there's no need to get everything right on one take. One can just record the parts they want, when they want, and assemble their show later. Make Propaganda Software
With Propaganda, it's easy to drag their audio clips into a show sequence, and preview how everything sounds. If one change their mind, simply drag the clips around on the timeline, it allows the user to add some more content, or delete entire segments at will. And beyond sequencing, one can also edit any clip to make it shorter, louder, quieter, etc.
Propaganda handles music and sound effects as easily as spoken-word recordings. Any song can be chosen from the user’s collection, and be added. The built-in sound effects menu, or insert their own jingles and promos. Voice interviews can be mixed over background music for commercial-quality results.
When one is satisfied with their production, by simply clicking the Publish button the file can be shared with the world by saving the audio file in MP3 format. Propaganda also comes with 90 days of free podcast hosting which is powered by libsyn.com. All one have to do is name their podcast and choose a password for their free libsyn account.
On the other hand one can use Audacity to:
Record live audio.
Convert tapes and records into digital recordings or CDs.
Edit Ogg Vorbis, MP3, and WAV sound files.
Cut, copy, splice, and mix sounds together.
Change the speed or pitch of a recording.

W = Good morning everybody, I am Wasi Khan and our series of podcasts will be briefing you on the steps on how to create a podcast and also the hardware and software needs for creating a podcast. My fellow group members who have helped me are Debanjan and Arpit.
D = Thank you Wasi, well let us start of by simply telling you the steps on how to make a podcast. Ok so, the first step in creating a podcast is to create an audio content. This can be used using software, which Wasi and Arpit will further explain.
W = Yes, so from my research I have discovered a couple of softwares which can be used for making podcasts. These two softwares are named Propaganda and Audacity.
D = Wow, like the names, Propaganda and Audacity.
A = Yes, nice names and nice softwares also.
D = Really? Tell me about it!
A = yup...
W = Also as Debanjan earlier mentioned, the first step in order to create a podcast we need to create audio content. This audio content has to be of a very good quality so that it is easy for people to understand. Propaganda can record it, import it, and store it. All audio clips can be easily labeled and organized for later reference. And with Propaganda, there's no need to get everything right on one take. One can just record the parts they want, when they want, and assemble their show later.
D = Oh... So that’s why there is a 50$ tag with it.
A = Wait there is more.
D = Yeah well from what I have heard, Audacity being free is not all that bad also.
W = oh no…not at all.
D = Yeah, being a free software, we can perform the basic requirements such as, recording live audio, converting tapes and records into digital recordings or CDs, Edit Ogg Vorbis, MP3, and WAV sound files, Cut, copy, splice, and mix sounds together and even change the speed or pitch of a recording.
W = Now we will be telling you about the hardware needs required to create a podcast.
A = Yes everybody. So the basic hardware requirements for a basic podcast studio are a good quality microphone, a basic mixer, an audio interface for your computer, speakers, CD player, and last but not the least a computer.
W = Wow, that’s as basic, basic can get.
D = Yes, but how cheap is all this basic hardware equipment?
A = Oh, very cheap. Infact, prices of these equipments are coming down, which makes it very inexpensive to set up a podcasting studio at home.
W = Ok…so now that we have the hardware and software needs on how to make a software we now need to know on how we can upload a podcast.
A = And Debanjan’s going to explain how we do that.
D = Yes, Indeed I am. Infact from my research I came across a site called www.podomatic.com , to get full accessibility to this site one must register with the site. One registering one can create a profile aswell as creating, uploading and sharing podcasts.
A = Wah! Excellent, I think that’s good enough. Meets all my basic needs to create a podcast and even upload it. Hi5!
W = Yes, and before we leave our friend Arpit he has the joke of the day!
